WORRY QUOTES V

quotations about worry & worrying

Worrying is a waste of our time. Period. If we are worrying, then we are not doing anything about anything.

JANICE CORSANO

This Is Only a Dream!: When You Die You Wake Up

My worrying is misguided in that it only serves to frighten me, make me afraid of the unknown and cause me to take a very cynical view that nothing will ever change. When these feelings and emotions begin to arouse, I have learned to begin to channel and redirect them into the places where I can have significant impact.

Worry in the dark can make it even darker.

CAMRON WRIGHT

Do not worry at being worried; but accept worry peacefully. Difficult but not impossible.

JOHN CHAPMAN

Spiritual Letters

Worry is a fidgety girl who can't do things right. In the morning she dresses herself but the clothes don't fit. Worry is slim. Worry is fat. Worry is never what she wants to be.

EILEEN CURTEIS

Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.

People who are prone to worrying are soft-wired to pay attention to threatening news, thereby building up a library of evidence in their brains that worrying is necessary. Think about it. On any given day, there are so many threatening things happening in the world -- anything from new viruses, terrorist attacks, or political conflicts to a hostile email or upcoming storm are all real events. Yet, if you only pay attention to the threats, you have no space left in your brain to process anything else. Threat becomes your reality, and worry becomes your justifiable response. Anyone telling you to give up your worry will sound out of touch, to say the least.

You can't wring your hands and roll up your sleeves at the same time.

CHARLES H. MAYO

attributed, Words of Wellness: A Treasury of Quotations for Well-Being

If something worries you, check it out. Do what you can, take care of what you can, and then let it go. At this point, having done all you can, worrying about the issue doesn't do you any good. You could be using that energy in other ways to help you feel better.

JANICE CORSANO

This Is Only a Dream!: When You Die You Wake Up

Worrying is an attempt to exert control over the future by thinking about it. In this way, worry is something that occurs on the inside, and its effects on the outside world are only imaginary.

CHAD LEJEUNE

One can make one's life a complete misery, worrying about burglaries and shipwrecks, but ask anyone, anyone you know ... earth-shattering disasters and fabulous inheritances all seems to take place exclusively in the newspapers.

The first essential component of worry is a future orientation. In other words, when you worry you invariably focus on something that might happen but hasn't happened yet. This notion might seem a bit controversial. In fact, you might even disagree with it. You might argue that you worry about things that are happening now, not in the future. A closer look, though, reveals the truth--worry is like a haunted crystal ball, tormenting you with a terrifying view of the future.

Worry is spiritual nearsightedness, a fumbling way of looking at little things, and of magnifying their value.

ANNA ROBERTSON BROWN

What is Worth While?

Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.

ARTHUR SOMERS ROCHE

If the worry is reasonable, do something about it. If it's irrational or out of your control, recognize that.

Worrisome thoughts reproduce faster than rabbits, so one of the most powerful ways to stop the spiral of worry is simply to disclose my worry to a friend.... The simple act of reassurance from another human being [becomes] a tool of the Spirit to cast out fear.

JOHN ORTBERG, JR.

The Me I Want to Be

Worrying is about living in a "what if" state of mind and visualizing what you DON'T want to experience, instead of what you DO! When your mind gets stuck on a negative thought, it automatically shifts into high gear and tries to fix the situation.

JAFREE OZWALD

Don't be forecasting evil unless it is what you can guard against. Anxiety is good for nothing if we can't turn it into a defense.
